How we choose the gifts we list
What goes into a guide, what we check, what we refuse to do, and exactly how commission works.
How a guide comes together
- It starts with a real question, not a keyword. "Something for a colleague, maximum €25, and it has to be opened at the office" is a brief. "Gifts" is not.
- We set the constraints first: budget band, who the person actually is, and whether it has to arrive before a fixed date.
- We collect candidates that are widely available in the market of that language, then cut everything that only works for one very specific person.
- Every pick is written with the recipient in mind: who it fits, and just as important, who it does not fit.
- A guide goes live only after someone has read it end to end in the language it is published in.
What we check per product
- Availability at a large retailer in that market at the time of writing.
- A realistic price band in the currency of that market, not a launch price from two years ago.
- Whether it suits the person described, not just the occasion. A wedding is not a personality.
- Whether it is a repeatable product rather than a limited edition that is gone next week.
What we do not do
- We do not sell places in a guide. There are no sponsored slots, and no brand can pay its way onto a list.
- We do not run a test lab and we do not claim to have used everything we list. Where we do have hands-on experience, the text says so.
- We do not invent prices, product codes or availability. If a figure cannot be verified, we leave it out instead of guessing.
- We do not pad a list to a round number. Six ideas that fit beat ten that were needed to reach ten.
Prices are indications, not live prices
The prices on this site are indications from the moment of writing or the last review. We do not pull live prices from retailers, so a price can be out of date by the time you read it, especially around Black Friday and December.
Always check the price and the delivery date at the shop before you order. If a price is far off, tell us and we will correct it.
Affiliate links and commission
GiftPal takes part in the Amazon Associates programme. Links to Amazon are affiliate links: if you buy something after clicking one, we can earn a commission on that purchase.
You never pay more because of it. The price is the same as when you go to the retailer directly, and you are under no obligation to use our links.
Commission plays no part in what enters a guide or in what order it appears. Amazon pays different commission rates per product category, and we do not use those rates when deciding what to recommend or how to rank it.
Amazon is currently the only affiliate programme we take part in. If that changes, this page changes with it.
How often we review
- Evergreen guides are reviewed at least once a year.
- Seasonal guides are reviewed before their peak: Sinterklaas and Secret Santa in October, Christmas in November, Valentine's Day in January, Mother's Day and Father's Day in spring.
- Sooner than that whenever a reader reports a dead link or a wrong price, a product is discontinued, or a guide no longer answers the question people are asking.
- A review means checking every link and price again. It is not a date bump.
Mistakes and corrections
We get things wrong. A product is discontinued, a price doubles, a link rots. Mail info@nextdayonline.nl with the URL and what is wrong, and we will correct the page. We do not quietly delete a mistake and pretend the guide always said something else.
Frequently asked
Do brands pay to be included in a GiftPal guide?
No. There are no paid placements and no sponsored slots. We earn affiliate commission on purchases, and that commission has no influence on what we include or how we rank it.
Do you test the products yourselves?
Not systematically. We do not run a test lab and we do not claim to have used every product we list. We check availability, price band and whether the product fits the person described. Where we do have hands-on experience with something, the text says so.
Why is a price on the site sometimes wrong?
Because the prices are indications from the moment of writing or the last review, not live prices pulled from the retailer. Always check the current price at the shop before ordering.
